Podcast

Here you will find my first attempt at creating a podcast. A podcast is a work that incorporates sounds and music to a recorded text to further illuminate it, similar to the hypertext exercise I also have posted. It is intricate because individuals creating a podcast need to make decisions regarding intonation, stress, timing as well as sounds that are appropriate to accompany their reading.

I had some difficulty when I first started using Audacity, a free online audio manipulation software. However, there are many online tutorials which guide you through the process which was extremely helpful. Recording myself was fun in certain ways because it's interesting to hear your own voice played back to you. Picking the music and sound effects took up most of the time while I completed the project because I found different sounds totally changed the overall mood of my reading.

In the future, I would definitely use podcasts in the classroom with a text I am teaching. It engages students with the language and asks them to tap into their creative sides. I have uploaded my podcast of excerpts from Maya Angelou's "Phenomenal Woman". The background soundtrack is Clair de Lune by Debussy and the sound effects were found on http://www.freesound.org. I hope you enjoy my podcast!
